Douglas C. Roberts 85, of Elyria passed away Saturday April 24, 2020 at The Cleveland Clinic in Avon following a brief illness. He was born February 9, 1935 in Dagenham, England. Doug served in the United States Air Force, and was an Air Traffic Controller for twenty four years. He had also worked for Custom Gutter, The Elyria Public Library, and retired in 2000 from U.S. Customs. Doug was a member of American Legion Post#12 where he was Vice President of Korean War Veterans, and a member the Elyria United Polish Club. Doug loved his classical music, gardening, and his Wednesday morning breakfast with the guys. Doug was also a devoted Michigan Fan "Go Blue". Survivors include his wife of forty years; Trudy L. (nee: Kopp), three children; Karen of TN., Scott (Pamela) of MA., David of Elyria, three step children; Vicki Fritz (Bill) of FL., Valerie Fritz (Larry) of MI., Mark Fritz (Mary) of KY. Additional survivors include five grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister; Margaret (Alan) of MI., sister in law; Marliee of Columbus, brother in law; Gary Smink (Lori) of NM, and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Myra (nee: Grant) Roberts, a sister; Myra Souben (Walter), a brother; Patrick Gallagher (Charlotte), and a brother in law; Ron Smink. Burial and full military honors will be at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH at a later date.
