Dorothy B. DeLong (nee Newell) 90 of Elyria formerly of Homerville went home to be with her Lord Tuesday September 9, 2014 following a brief illness at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. She was born January 18 , 1924 in Akron and Graduated from Congress High School in West Salem in 1942. Dorothy worked for J.C. Penny Co. as a clerk in the Catalog Department until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of Amherst United Methodist Church formerly Old Stone United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends .survivors include daughters Mary Ann (Charles) Remick of Elyria and Nancy (Ron) West of LaGrange , grandchildren Shelly (Nate) Ardle , Tim (Suzi) Remick , Tom (Jennifer) Remick , Rick West , Jeff West , Becky Webb , Dave (Jennifer) West, Dan (Roberta) West ,19 great-grandchildren , 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband James E., infant son Robert J. , parents William and Bertha (nee Gault), sisters Ruth Perry and Lucille Flowers , brother Paul. Family will receive friends 2-5 PM Sunday September 14, 2014 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57) Elyria 440-322-4626, where services will be held 10 AM Monday. Pastor Dan Reinke of Amherst United Methodist Church and Pastor Joel Zaborowski of Trinity Evangelical Free Church will co-officiate.
