Doris Jean Hardy (nee: Shivak), age 87, of Elyria, passed away from natural causes on February 21, 2023 at her home, days shy of her 88th birthday. A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, she was born on March 2, 1935 in Sheffield Township, Ohio to parents Frank and Wanda Shivak. Doris was a 1953 graduate of Clearview High School, class of 1953 where she was a member of the Booster and Library Clubs, Junior Playmakers and Neophytes.

She worked for Gilford Instruments in Oberlin as an assembler until her retirement in 1997. Doris enjoyed reading, stamp collecting and taking long drives on back country roads.  Immensely independent, she would always defend the underdog in debate.  Also, she had an uncanny knack for striking up conversations with strangers throughout her life.

Her fiery spirit will be missed and remembered by all who knew her. Survivors include her children, Marsha (Russell) Norton of LaGrange, Eileen (Michael) Stanic of Wakeman, Kenneth (Sun-Yong) Hardy of Stafford, Virginia, and Michelle (Jeff) Yovichin of Strongsville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Wanda Shivak, brothers Frank Shivak, Jr. and Donald Shivak, and sisters Wanda Shivak and Mariann Hummrich. All services will be private.
