Doris M. Schaefer (nee: Meeker) 86, of Elyria passed away Friday January 23, 2015 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a long illness. She was born June 23, 1928 in Cleveland. Doris was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Valley City. She worked as a bartender at the V.F.W. for many years. Doris loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed bowling, golf, crocheting, and travel. In her younger days she participated in Roller Derby skating. Survivors include her husband of forty seven years; Lawrence J. Schaefer , a daughter; Judith M. Pick (David) of Grafton, two sons; Rob L. Licker (Donna) of Vacaville, CA, Ronald A. Licker (Chris) of Walton Hills, OH. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister; Carole Curtain (Bob) of Valley City, and a brother; Dell Ray Meeker (Janet) of Brooklyn, OH. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; Sherman and Dorothy (nee: Rochester) Meeker, two sisters; Shirley Yascone, Ethel Mersing, and a brother; Raymond Meeker. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday January 31, 2015 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church 1824 Station Rd. Valley City, OH 44280 where the family will receive friends from 9:00 AM Saturday until time of Mass at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Dunphy, Pastor will be the Celebrant.
