January 1, 1931 – October 16, 2015
Doris K. "Lillian" Heard (nee Kolb), of Eaton Twp., North Ridgeville joined the heavenly chorus of Angels singing for her Lord and Savior Jesus on Friday October 16, 2015. She has also been lovingly rejoined with her husband Eugene who just passed away on July 1, 2015. Doris was a 1931 Brooklyn , New York New Year's baby born to Stephen and Mae Kolb. Music was a very big part of her life and her voice was what drew her to her husband of 65 years. She graduated from Midwood High School, Brooklyn in 1949 with a voice scholarship to Juliard. At the age of 11, Doris sang many solo's at her church and also performed her first wedding solo. She sang in two different choirs all through school as well as church choirs. At one time Doris belonged to 5 different choirs/choruses at the same time includuing the New York All City Chorus. Over the past 66 years Doris had sung with many choirs , choral , theater and civic organizations. To name a ferw were , The First Methodist Church , LaPorte United Methodist Church , Columbia Mother Singers , The Gibson Girls , American Theater Chorus , Elyria Summer Theater , Elyria Community Chorus (Messiah) , the LCC Civic Chorus , and last was the Avon Lake Womans Chorus for the past 17 years. Crafting , sewing , cooking were among her personal interests. Known as the "homemaker of homemakers" , Doris's faith , family and singing were the foundations of her life. She used these talents in her children's cub scouting and girl scouting activities. A gifted cake decorator for birthdays , holidays , and special events often found Doris providing treats for her children's home room parties and other PTA events. She had a flair for Italian cooking making these specialties for many a Methodist tureen dinner. She also did a lot of freezing and canning from the family gardens. Doris leaves behind to cherish her memories , children May (Rick) Gordon of Fountain, Colorado , Eugene III (Edna) of Eaton twp. , Janet (Arthur) Dennis of Carlisle Twp., Steven (Pamela) of Amherst ,and David of Marietta, Georgia. In addition there are 7 grandchildren Laura , Ginger , Cara , Curt , Alex , Thomas and Isaac , 7 great-grandchildren Shaina , Paige , Casie , Kendal , Lucas , Emily and Tucker and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceding her passing are her husband Eugene , her parents Stephen and Mae Kolb (nee Woodischeck) and her sister and brother-in-law Jeanne (nee Kolb) and Hebert Bauer and niece Romayne Kodman (nee Cook). Family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday October 21, 2015 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626 , where services will be held at 11 AM Thursday. Pastor Bill Wendell of LaPorte UMC will officiate. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery (Eaton Twp.).
