Donald J. Wascovich 72, of Elyria passed away Wednesday March 7, 2018 at The Cleveland Clinic in Avon following a long illness. He was born December 11, 1945 in Lorain. Don worked as a Chemistry Professor at Lorain County Community College, retiring in 1999 following twenty nine years of teaching. Don enjoyed coaching soccer, and was an assistant coach at Elyria Catholic High School; photography and woodworking. Survivors include his wife of forty seven years; Donna J. (nee: Hanus), four sons; Matthew D. of Cleveland, Daniel J. (Ferena) of San Francisco, CA, Michael P. (Jeanine) of Charlotte, NC., Steven A. (Penelope) of Oakland, CA. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, four sisters; Jean Yohman (Richard) of Lorain, Kathleen Majcher (William) of Cortland, OH., Diane Sockel (Jon) of Lorain, Mary Ellen Martinez (Ray) of St. Augustine, FL., two brothers; Milan of Detroit, MI., Terry (Tina) of Northfield, OH. Don was preceded in death by his parents; Ruben and Mary (nee: Chovanec) Wascovich, and a brother; Patrick. The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM Sunday March 11, 2018 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626, and from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM Monday March 12, 2018 in The Weigand Room at St. Mary Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday March 12, 2018 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave. Elyria. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick, Pastor will be the Celebrant.
