Donald N. VanGosen, 80, of Elyria passed away Thursday May 16, 2013 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born July 3, 1932 in Powhaton Point, OH. And was a Elyria resident for most of his life. Don worked in the maintenance department at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in Elyria, and enjoyed gardening, reading, spending time with his grandchildren, and being active in various local organizations. Survivors include his beloved wife, Harriet Margolis-VanGosen; daughter, Debra (Dan) Sciulli of Elyria; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tara) Minnich and Adam Sciulli; great-grandchildren, Jada Sciulli and Maleah Minnich; Step-daughter, Marilyn Stotter of Jacksonville, FL.; Step-sons, Marvin Lichtcsien of Baltimore, MD. And Alan Lichtcsien of Columbus; sister, Marylou Howell of Bellaire, OH.; 6 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha in 1981, and a sister, Peggy Farmer. The family will receive friends Monday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church 41812 Griswold Rd., Elyria. Pastor Charles Keesee will Officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
