Donald S. Townsend, 88, of Elyria passed away Sunday February 14, 2016 at his home 16 hours following the death of his wife of 63 years, Melita from a brief illness. He was born June 27, 1927 in Vandergrift, PA. and was an Elyria resident for most of his life. Don was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for many years, retiring in 1980 as a Quality Control Engineer. He served with the United States Navy during W.W. II, was an active member of the V.F.W. Post 1079 in Elyria where served on the Rifle Squad and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters, Inara (Wilbert) Hayes of Elyria and Ina (Kevin) Young of Cape Coral, FL.; grandchildren, Steven, Lisa, Julie, Kristin and Matt; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Melita, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers. A joint Memorial Service will be Tuesday February 23, 2016 in the Chapel at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where inurnment will immediately follow with members of the V.F.W. Post 1079 providing full military honors. The Rev. Chuck Behrens, Chaplain of the Hospice of the Western Reserve will Officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve 300 East 185th St. Cleveland, OH. 44119. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria, OH. 44035.
