Donald R. Ignatz, 79, of Elyria passed away Wednesday December 15, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and pneumonia. He was born September 9, 1942 in Elyria and was a lifelong Lorain County resident.Don was a 1960 graduate of Elyria High School and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1964 with a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. He earned at Master's Degree from The Ohio State University in 1968, also in mathematics. He taught mathematics in the Elyria Public Schools for 12 years and full time at Lorain County Community College for 23 years. An avid Ohio State football fan, he held season tickets for more than 50 years, giving them up just this past fall. He enjoyed traveling across the United States, Europe, China, and cruising the Caribbean. He liked card playing, especially Eucher. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joyce (nee-Meitzke) and brother, Louis (Carol) Ignatz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ethel (nee-Figula) Ignatz. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on 3rd Street in Elyria on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m., family and friends may gather prior to the service in the parlor of the church beginning at 3:00 p.m..
