Donald J. Haughton 85, of Elyria passed unexpectedly Friday November 1, 2019 at Firelands Regional Medical Center. He was born June 9, 1934 in Cleveland. Don served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired as a supervisor from TRW following thirty five years of service. Don was a member of V.F.W. Post 1079, and Masonic Lodge 621; he made friends easily and loved talking about the Navy. Don loved hosting family get togethers and making people laugh. He was a joy to be around and his sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of thirty eight years; Darlene A. (nee: Matheny), five daughters; Marianne Ring (Brian) of CA., Laura Chapek (Dale) of North Ridgeville, Donna Haughton of CA., Rene Leighton (Charles) of California, Melody Rayel of Elyria, a son; Dennis Rayel of Cleveland, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by a daughter; Diane Rayel, a grandson; Eric Ring, and his mother; Mabel Haughton (nee: Knox), and his fury companions; Gigi, Pickles, Brandy, and Button. The family will process from The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria at 9:15 AM Thursday November 14, 2019 to The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Road in Rittman, Ohio where the U.S. Navy will provide full military honors at 10:30 AM. The family invites friends to share memories of Don at V.F.W. Post #1079 at 500 S. Abbe Rd. Elyria following services at the cemetery.
