IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Don Allan
Mcconnell
March 2, 1953 – September 1, 2024
Don McConnell, 71, currently of Amherst, Ohio passed away at home on September 1, 2024, following a stalwart battle with leukemia. Don lived most of his life in Elyria, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold "Mac" and Jean (Sheppard), and sister, Joy Beckloff. He is survived by his wife Pat (nee-Tollett), canine companions, Gabby and Ellie, and his sister Carol Wright. He was a great friend and best uncle and Poppy. Don worked as an electrician and as a telephone systems engineer. Don's greatest joy was in mechanics and fixing things. He was always the guy to call. And he loved cars, especially old ones, and his Mustangs. Don had a long history as a sportscar racing guy. In the mid-1980's, he started his "other career" with CART (Indy Car) in Timing and Scoring and went on to hold many positions for Indy, Indy Lites, Grand Am, and IMSA (NASCAR). From tech inspections, pace cars, and pit lane officiating to logistics and transport, he worked on some of the most famous tracks in North America. Don's wife and family cordially invite all of his friends and loved ones to a dinner on the lawn in memory and fellowship. Saturday September 28, 2024, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at 13000 Baumhart Rd. Amherst, OH. 44001. Good stories, photos, and vintage cars are welcome! Donations can be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
