Obituary

Dewey Qua Hitchcox 86, of Elyria passed away Monday March 9, 2015 at University Hospitals of Cleveland following a long illness. He was born November 11, 1929 in Rocky River, TN. Dewey was one of eleven children raised in Pikeville, TN. He retired from the Osterland Co. of Cleveland and retired in 1990. Dewey loved country music and Bluegrass. In his younger days, he and three of his brothers performed in a Bluegrass band called "The Hymn Timers" based out of Pikeville, TN. Together they made several recordings in Nashville; they also performed at The Grand Ole Opry and had a radio show. Survivors include his wife of fifty three years; Marilyn J. (nee: Hamm), his children; James Harmon Jr. (MaryAnn) of Rivesville, WV, Charles Harmon (Jennifer) of Wellington, Debra James of Elyria, a brother Alford, a sister Faye of Pikesville, TN. Additional survivors include eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; Oscar and Gladys (nee: Austin) Hitchcox, two brothers; James and Darius, two sisters; Effie and Lauree and four infant sisters at birth. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday March 13, 2015 at North Ridgeville Cemetery . Memorial services will immediately follow burial at The First Congregational Church 36363 Center Ridge Rd. North Ridgeville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria (440)322-4626.
