Dennis Robert Hughes Sr., 72, of Elyria passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain. He was born May 21, 1947 in Elyria. Dennis proudly served his Country in the Navy during Vietnam. He enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid Cleveland Sports fan (Especially the Cleveland Indians). Dennis was a member of American Legion post # 37, Amvets post #32, VFW post #1079, Patriot Guard and Legion Riders Post # 211. Survivors include his sons Dennis Jr. of Elyria, Matt (Sharon O'Connor) of LaGrange; daughters Christina Poland of Wellington, Shannon (Ricky) Earls of Oberlin; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sanchez, Matthew Jr. & Bradley Hughes, Richard, Colleen and Matthew Poland, Stephanie and Rick Earls; sister Diana Wilson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Evelyn Hughes (nee Stahl); grandson Tommy Earls; sisters Arlene Campbell, June Hanchett, Merrilee Bodey; brother William "Skip" Hughes. Family will receive friends 10AM until time of service at 11 AM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626. Burial Brookdale Cemetery(Elyria), where full military honors will be provided by Amvets post # 32.
