Dean M. Wells, 80, of Brownhelm Twp. Passed away Sunday at EMH Healthcare following a long illness. He was born October 4, 1931 in Reynoldsville, PA. and was a lifelong Elyria area resident. Dean served on the Elyria Fire Department for 24 years, retiring with the rank of captain in 1984. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, was a member of V.F.W. Post 1079 in Elyria, was a member of the Vermilion American Legion and Vermilion AMVETS, and enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing. Survivors include his daughters, Pam (Richard) Rasmussen of Genoa, OH., Karen Wells of Sheffield Lake, and Linda Wells of Vermilion; son, James (Denise), Wells of Texas; grandchildren, Eric, Chad, Greg, Ryan, Ben, and Nora; sister, Janet Rundle of Brunswick; half-sisters, Diane Schatz of Elyria and Debbie Wells of Columbus; half-brother, Dennis Wells of Elyria. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Barnett. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Mr. Chuck Boals, Chaplain of the Elyria Fire Department will Officiate. Private burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
