David A. Rankin Jr. 57, of Grafton passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2023 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1965 in Elyria. Dave was a 1983 Midview High School graduate and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton.  He had worked as a machinist in the tool and die industry. Dave loved spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He had a passion for fishing. You could almost always find him on Lake Erie catching walleye or in a river reeling in steelhead. He enjoyed working on race cars and watching NASCAR events.

Survivors include his wife of thirty six years; Marianne L. (nee: Pelot), a daughter; Rachele A. Podulka (Tom) of Grafton, a son; David A. Rankin III (Molly) of Bluffton, IN.  Additional survivors include his grandchildren; Kendyl, Brock, Ava, Cora, Mia, his mother; Barbara Rankin (nee: Noster) of Grafton, a sister; Jill Yates (Kevin) of Grafton, a brother; Darren (Denyse) of Wellington, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Dave was preceded in death by his father; David A. Rankin Sr.

The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Wednesday March 1, 2023 at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday March 2, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton.  The Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Please meet at church. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Dave's memory may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
