David Kantelas, 58, of Elyria passed away Wednesday March 18, 2015 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake following a brief illness. He was born February 13, 1957 in Lorain and was a Elyria resident for the past 16 years. Dave was employed in the maintenance department at U.H. Elyria Medical Center for 29 years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Linda (nee-Janowicz); son, Alex Kantelas of Warren; step-daughter, Diana (Nate) Lieux of Elyria; step-son, Brian (Melissa) Kruszewski of Elyria; grandchildren, Logan, Kate and Ethan; father, Dan Kantelas of Lorain; sisters, Pam Bruscino and Melissa Ford; brother, Dan Kantelas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Kantelas. The family will receive friends Friday (today) 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Saturday March 21, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Church 509 Poplar St., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
