David L. Bescan, 62, of Grafton passed away Sunday January 1, 2017 at University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland following a brief illness. He was born June 8, 1954 in Elyria and was a lifelong Grafton resident. Dave was a 1972 Midview High School graduate, a 1976 graduate of the Miami University of Ohio and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was the owner of Durkee's General Store in Grafton for 20 years and also a partner of Crooked Creek Farms in Sullivan. A very active Grafton resident, Dave also served on the Grafton Village Council, was a former member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, established Grafton's Main Street Preservation Society including acquiring the Grafton Caboose and Train Tower building, established the annual downtown Grafton Christmas Celebration and established Grafton's Tobacco Spitting festival and contest. He also was a member of the Ninth Virginia Regiment (Revolutionary War) re-enactors group the participated in various movies including The Last of the Mohicans and The Patriot and enjoyed perfecting his wild yeasted pizza dough. Survivors include his brother, Alan (Denise) Bescan of Grafton; nephew, Evan (Karen) Bescan; niece, Hannah Bescan; great-nephew, Wesley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Melba Bescan. The family will receive friends Friday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria.
