David Barnes Balas, age 80, of Columbia Station, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 20, 2025, at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. David was born on April 15, 1945, in Elyria, Ohio, to the late Ernest W. Balas and Jane M. Balas (née Barnes). A proud veteran, David honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including service in Vietnam. His dedication to duty and love of country remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.

David worked for many years as a truck driver with Medina Supply Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. He also spent time working security at Spanky’s, where his presence and personality were well known.

In his free time, David enjoyed fishing, bowling, shooting guns, and drag racing cars—activities that reflected his love for the outdoors, competition, and engines. He was especially known for his great sense of humor, quick wit, and selfless nature. David was always willing to help others and brought laughter to those around him.

David will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him. His service, kindness, and humor leave a lasting legacy.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy (Bill) Dittrich; son, Jason (Kelly Chiorazzi) Balas; sisters, Darla Perry, Donna (Doug) Balbierer, Dawn (Don) Herwig; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and special friend, Mary Brookshire, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynn (née Jackson) in 2015; daughter, Stacey Balas; brothers, Darryl and Dale.
