Darrell Gainer, 76, of Elyria passé away Thursday June 16, 2016 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born July 11, 1939 in Grantsville, WV. And was an Elyria resident for most of his life. Darrell worked as a Tool and Die maker at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was a United States Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 12 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Diane (nee-Jones); daughter, Cindy Furse; sons, Glen Gainer and Todd Gainer; several grandchildren; sisters, Sue Richards and Phyllis Hathway; brothers, Dale, Ronzell and Wendell Gainer. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Reva, Mary, Lenore, Geneva and Carolyn and a brother, Garrett. The family will receive friends on Thursday June 23, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev. Chuck Behrens, Chaplain of Hospice of the Western Reserve will Officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
