Daniel W. "Artie" O'Dell, 69, of Elyria passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center with his family by his side. The firecracker "popped" into the world also at UHEMH on July 4, 1953. He was a 1971 graduate of Elyria High School, he went on to receive his certification in Respiratory Therapy at LCCC. He was the first certified RT at EMH. Dan worked at EMH for 46 years ending his career as a CRT. Dan was an avid Cleveland fan ( Browns, Cavs, Indians/Guardians,), and OSU football. He was a member of UPC and Elyria Elks. Dan enjoyed golfing and spending hours on his boat "Sin or Swim". Being born on the fourth of July, Dan loved fireworks and blew off the biggest loudest ones he could find, waking up the neighborhood early mornings every year. He continued to set them off for weeks around his birthday. Thunderstorms were also a favorite, he would sit on the front porch with neighbor Jeannie during storms rolling in over McKinley school field. Being a moon child he always noted the phases of the moon with child-like awe. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (nee Hurn); sisters, Kathleen (Kevin) Mindenhall, Peggy Barnie; brothers, William (Eileen) O'Dell and Theodore O'dell Jr.; step-children, Julie (Dan) Wade, Kevin (Shanna) Lawson and Clint Lawson, many nieces , nephews and step-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore W. O'Dell Sr. and I. Elaine O'Dell- Streator (nee McIntyre); nephew Kellan Barnie. Dan battled cancer courageously for 18 months living daily with his disease and treatment complications. The family would like to give special thanks to the oncology medical and nursing staff at CCF Lorain for their fantastic care. Thank you to all our friends and family members for giving emotional support and help during Dan's long struggle against cancer.
