Obituary

Daniel Fate had a long happy life, was an intelligent man with strong beliefs, and a love for machines of all kinds, especially those with engines.

Daniel Fate born in Elyria Ohio on April 29th, 1946, Second child to Bernard and Ruth Fate, residing in North Ridgeville Ohio. Daniel attended St. Peter’s parochial school, attended and graduated North Ridgeville High School, and later completed an Engineering degree at Lorain County Community College.

Daniel worked many years as a tool and dye maker, actively managed a hobby farm of 20 plus acres, was an active member of the “Bumps and Grinds” Model T club, Active member of the American Motorcycle Association and active member of the National Rifle Association. Daniel had deep passion for vehicles that were fast.

Daniel engaged in drag racing with his brother Barry in the early 1960’ s. Also in the late 1960’s he enjoyed off road motorcycle racing with brother Gregory competing in hare scrambles, motocross, TT flat track and 1/2 mile flat track racing. During his later years Daniel was an AMA pro racing the 1/2 mile motorcycle circuit in Ohio.

In 1975 apparently Daniel decided to stop going fast and joined his brother Barry in farming, purchased his 20 acres farm to compliment Barry’s 20 acres with row crop as a hobby farm of soybeans. This did not extinguish his love for motorcycles as he continued to be an avid rider throughout his life. Daniels passion for motorcycles is evident in his restored racing motorcycles from the late 1960’s that are displayed in his home, and the yearly 1/4 mile track he made in his farm field every year before farming. He had to get some fast laps in before the crops grew

To have a conversation with Daniel you would immediately recognize that he was warm, intelligent, and a quick wit that was not always caught by the receiver. Dan enjoyed offering his point of view, and he held strong views on many subjects, as he had a wealth of knowledge and rarely spoke on a subject unless he had researched it. Daniel was always willing to help others, especially those that shared his hobbies, passions and interests. Daniel was a strong belief in family as he loved his father, mother, brothers, and extended family very much. You could almost not get him to stop talking.

Daniel was loved and will be deeply missed by those he was around.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday March 11, 2026 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
