Obituary

Dan William Nixon After 19 days of giving the greatest fight of his life, Dan William Nixon, 60, of Huntington Township passed away June 28, 2020. Dan was born July 23, 1959 in Elyria, Ohio. He was the son of Dan and Darrell Nixon, and the namesake of his father and Uncle Bill. He was a 1977 graduate of Elyria High School, and persued a career in Welding and Fabrication at the Lorain County JVS. He worked 16 years for the Invacare Corporation, and over 20 years for the Lorain Tubular/US Steel Corporation. He retired from US Steel in 2015. Post-retirement he was a driver for Denes Concrete, truck #56. Dan married his wife, Cathy (Cazeau) NIxon, in 2004 on her 39th birthday. They shared nearly 20 years together, and blended their families and five children: Paul Nixon, Amanda (Brandon) Brown, Stephanie (Joe) Parola, Sarah (Joey) O'Keefe, Matthew (Brittany) Combs. He proudly walked all three daughters down the aisle on their wedding days, and was "The Best Papa" to six grandchildren: Jordyn, Sydney, Rory, Ashlyn, Alaina, and Abel. Dan was loyal to his family and friends, and honest to a fault. He loved so many, and so much! He was fond of country music, western movies, watching all Cleveland sports teams, making hay with his John Deere, banana malts, Phil's Spaghetti House, long country drives, and family gatherings. He also enjoyed hunting with the guys, attending gun shows with his dad, and golfing with his best friend, his son Paul. Dan's love of animals provided him many hobbies. Dutch rabbits were his favorite, and so was the company he shared with them: Larry and Carol Nixon, and John and Kathy Marcum. He strived to attain the Standards of Perfection, and in 2004 he won the National Dutch Show. He and his wife owned Wildcat Stables, which was named after his horse I'm A Lil Wildcat ("Cat"). In 2007 he took a trip down to Mississippi with Matt Combs, and Stacy and Abe Little, to ride "Cat" in The Eastern National Finals. He will be missed by his horses, his German Shepherds, Zeus & Apollo, and his little lap dog, Nick! Dan is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren; his father, Dan (Jeanne) NIxon; forever "Big Brother" to Terri (Jay) Loesch, and Patty Nixon; "Uncle Danny" to: Lindsey, Stephen, Corey, Tyler and Perrin; step-sisters: Jenny (Thom) Lorbach, Missy (John) Brown, Rebecca Bowen, Kearsten (Bradley) Stevanus, and Jessica Basinski; his in-laws, Jack and Marsha Dean; sister-in-law Cynthia Davis; brothers-in-law, Jack (Michelle) Carrigan and Clay (Cheryl) Dean; and special friend, Trevor Simpson (Jordyn's father). He will be forever remembered by many other family members and friends! He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Oliver and Dorthy Cook, Hartzel and Thelma Nixon; and his beloved mother, Darrell (Cook) Nixon.
