IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Craig Alex
Petrus
May 24, 1951 – May 20, 2025
Craig Petrus, devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and proud United States Army veteran, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Craig served his country with honor while stationed in Texas, and continued a life of service long after his military career.
A man of immense talent and heart, Craig was a master carpenter, electrician, and plumber-there was little he couldn't build or repair. As he liked to say, the only two things he couldn't weld were a broken heart and the crack of dawn. His skills led him through many jobs over the years, but none as impactful as his time at Elyria Catholic High school, where he served as Director of Operations. Craig poured his craftsmanship into the very bones of the school, including handcrafting elements of the Chapel-his labor was truly a labor of love.
Craig also gave back as a coach, sharing his time and values with the students of Elyria Catholic, coaching football. His leadership and steady presence on the field left a lasting impression on countless young athletes.
If something needed fixing, Craig was the one you called-family, friend, or neighbor, it didn't matter. His helping hands and generous spirit were always available to those in need.
In recent years, Craig found his greatest joy in being "Papa" to his grandchildren: Jack and Colin Kenneally, and Connor and Claire Petrus. He never missed a game and a moment to cheer them on. His love for them was unwavering, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Craig is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judith (nee-Gibbons); son, Chad (Allison); son-in-law, Terrance Kenneally; sister, Cynthia (David) deGroh; father-in-law, Richard Gibbons and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Tracy Petrus Kenneally and his son, Brent Petrus and his parents Alex and Mary Petrus.
Craig leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, service, and dedication. His impact was not just felt in the walls he built or the cars he fixed, but in the lives he touched.
He will be forever remembered and dearly missed.
