Obituary

Kenneth Mundorf Jr.,82, of Elyria passed away on July 4, 2020, at home surrounded by family. He was born January 25, 1938 in Ashland, Ohio , the son of Ruth and Clayton Mundorf Sr. Ken was a 1956 graduate of Ashland High School, and a 1960 graduate of Ashland College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and was named "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities". He then received his Master of Education in Secondary School Administration from Kent State University. Mr. Mundorf spent his first five years employed by the Elyria City Schools teaching American History to Junior High and High School students. The following three years, he served as guidance counselor, and part time assistant principal at Franklin Junior High School. Additionally, he served as a coach for seven years in ninth grade football, track, and eighth,grade basketball. Following this Mr. Munford served as the Assistant Principal for Midview High School in Grafton for four years, and the Principal of Eastern Heights Jr. High for fifteen years. Ken spent the remainder of his career as the Executive Director of Human Resources for the Elyria City Schools. He spent 35 years dedicated to the field of education, 31 of which were with the Elyria City Schools. After his retirement, he spent two years on the Elyria School Board. In addition to his tenure in education, Mr. Mundorf was an avid golfer, and an active member of Washington Avenue Christian Church were he served many roles over the years. For twenty years, he was also a proud member of a vocal quartet, aptly named Quartific, along with Alan Peterson, Mark Mathes, Bob Rieth, and piano accompanist Rosalie Gainer. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kay ( nee Scott) Mundorf; son Chris (Kara) Mundorf; sister Connie (Terry) Lash, sister-in-law Sharon Scott; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Amy Leann Mundorf; parents Ruth and Clayton Mundorf Sr. ; sisters Patricia (Merle) Queer and Beverly Martin. Private Burial. A Celebration of life will held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of, Elyria 440-322-4626.
