Obituary

Clayton "Clay" Cook, 78, of LaGrange Township passed away Sunday February 3, 2019 at his home following a brief illness. He was born August 18, 1940 in Camp Dix, KY. And was a LaGrange Township resident for most of his life. Clay retired from the Ridge Tool Company after more than 30 years of employment. He proudly served in the United States Navy, was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 8369, was a life member of the Grafton V.F.W. Post 3341, where he served as a past commander and also on the honor guard. Clay was also a life member of AMVETS Post 32, and a member of the Wellington Eagles and American Legion, served as a past captain of the LaGrange Police Auxilliary, and was also a past president of the Keystone Athletic Boosters. He also loved woodworking, classic car shows and breakfast with friends at Choo-Choo's. His sense of humor will be missed by all. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elaine (nee-Straub); daughters, Teresa (Jeff) Frantz and Catherine (Mark) Leffel both of Dublin, OH.; son, Joseph (Lisa) Cook of Hood River, OR.; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Anthony, Joseph, and Alexis Frantz, Ryan and Jillian Leffel and Clayton and Lucinda Cook. He was preceded in death by sisters, Clara Lee Ray and Anna Mae Mathes and brothers, Roger and Donald Cook. The family will receive friends Friday 3:30-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 9, 2019 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church 708 Erie St., Grafton, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m until the time of Mass. The Rev. Fr. John P. Seabold, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Avon, where V.F.W. Post 3341 will conduct full military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, Memorial Gifts, 300 East 185th St. Cleveland, OH. 44119.
