Charles W. "Walt" Sturgill Sr., 83, of Wellington passed away Monday at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a brief illness. He was born November 28, 1928 in Bruin, KY. And was a Lorain County resident since 1947. Walt worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 42 years, retiring from the coke plant in 1992. He served with the United State Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Wellington V.F.W., was a member of the LaGrange Hunt Club, was a avid hunter and bred and raised bird dogs. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bea (nee-Sparks); sons, Chuck Sturgill Jr. of LaGrange and Phillip Sturgill of Kentucky; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Doris Bush of Grayson, KY., and Betty Ison of Bruin, KY.; brothers, Henry Sturgill Jr. of Grayson, KY, James Sturgill of LaGrange, and Rhondal Sturgill of Bruin, KY.. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Sturgill and brothers, Krandell, Clayton and Frank Sturgill. The family will receive friends Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Fraley, pastor of West Ridge Baptist Church will Officiate. Burial will be at River Road Cemetery, LaGrange.
