Charles "Bud" Dana Simmons 83 of Elyria passed away Wednesday June 4, 2014 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center following a short illness. He was born March 20,1931 in Oakland, Maine. Charles graduated from high school in Bucksport , Maine also attended the University of Maine where he received his masters degree and was a laboratory tech at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire. He holds licenses in Microbiology and Bacteriology. Charles was employed as a Microbiologist/Bacteriologist at Elyria Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Society of Clinical pathologists and a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church of Disciples of Christ. Bud served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany and obtained the rank of Corporal. Charles enjoyed sports, working at the Elyria Hospitality Center, Ohio Reads at Franklin School and especially his family. Survivors include his wife Pauline W. (nee Wakefield) ,daughters Debra Simmons of Chagrin Falls , Sue (Dave) Runkle of Elyria , sons Jeff (Karen) of Holden, Maine , Scott of Forked River , New Jersey , David (Kim) Hughes of Harpswell, Maine , Dwight (Ann) Hughes of Grafton , sister Patricia Blodgett of Wauwatosa , Wisconsin, 18 grandchildren , 7 great-grandchildren , 1 niece , and 3 nephews . He was preceded in death by his parents Dana and Mary (nee Hooper), daughter Linda Simmons and granddaughter Elizabeth "Libby" Hughes. NO VISITATION. Memorial services will be held at 4 PM Thursday July 3, 2014 at the Washington Ave. Christian Church of Disciples of Christ 301 Washington Ave. Elyria. Pastor Dr. Janet Long will officiate.
