Charles J. Borling, 94, passed away on August 3, 2018, at home on his treasured farm with his family by his side. He was born to Charles and Rose Borling in Burton, OH on August 29, 1923. They moved to the farm in Grafton, Ohio in 1932. Charles married Sarah Jane Johnson on November 8, 1942. He was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1943, and served in Africa and Europe. After WWII ended, he returned to Grafton and began working at Bendix Westinghouse in 1946. Charles and Sarah bought the family farm in 1957, where he continued to run the farming operations. Charles retired from Bendix in 1983. During retirement years he continued to farm, and enjoyed golfing, playing cards,, and following his favorite sports teams. He also enjoyed traveling with Sarah, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Connie (Jack) Strauss of Grafton,OH.; son , James (Marsha) of Stoughton,WI.; grandchildren Scott (Rhonda) Strauss, Kristen (Bob) Banjac, Jeff (Amanda) Borling, and Anne Shewalter; sister, Carol Carr; sister-in-law, Barbara (Ernst) Ulich; plus ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sarah; son, David Charles Borling; grandson, Matthew James Borling; parents, Charles and Rose; sister, Rhoda (Carlton) Sayers; nephew, Brett Sayers; and brother-in-law, Ed Carr. We thank the many friends who visited and supported Charles in so many ways. A special thanks goes out to Gary Anderson for his friendship and spiritual support. Thank you Dad and Grandpa for your strength, integrity, hard work, and the unwavering love you showed your family and friends. Family will receive friends from 2PM until time of Celebration of Life at 3PM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626, where full military honors will be provided by VFW post # 1079. Immediately following, family members are invited to a graveside service and gathering. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to VFW post # 1079 500 S. Abbe Rd. Elyria, Ohio 44035, American Legion Post 12 393 Ohio St. Elyria, Ohio 44035, or the charity of your choice.
