Catherine M. "Kate" Matolich, (nee-Rice), 92, of Elyria passed away Sunday February 15, 2015 at the Mercy New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness. She was born May 6, 1922 in Norwalk and was a Elyria resident for most of her life. Kate was a member of the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Elyria and enjoyed baking, cooking, travel and reading the newspaper. Aunt Kate was a independent spirit and very welcoming to everyone and had a infectious sense of humor that was evident until her final moments. Survivors include her nieces, Rita (Doug) Bowman, Anna (Conrad) Monske and Sandra Bauer; nephews, Dan (Debbie) Bauer, Dave (Barb) Bauer, Robert (Cathy) Rice, Richard (Maria) Bauer, Mike (Holly) Bauer and Tim (Elisa) Bauer; cousin, Margaret Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1985, daughter, Suzann Matolich; sister, Betty Bauer and brother, Mel Rice. The family will receive friends on Monday February 23, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd.
