Catherine "Cathy" R. Vargo

Catherine R. 'Cathy' Vargo (nee: Churchill), 65, of Elyria, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, July 6, 2026. She was born July 16, 1960 in Lorain, Ohio to Clinton R. Churchill and Lorrie R. Churchill (nee Picione). She lived most of her life in Elyria Township and was a 1978 graduate of Elyria West High School.

She loved growing flowers and making floral arrangements, gardening, music, horror movies, science fiction, National Geographic magazines. She could hold her own with the best when playing Jeopardy and could find a four leaf clover anywhere she looked. She was a loyal cat lover and over many years took in or took care of any stray cat that entered her yard. She shared her birthday with her beloved Uncle and Godfather Fred Churchill.

She is survived by her mother, Lorrie R. Churchill; daughter, Eva Vargo; sisters, Angelle Churchill and Carla Churchill Wagner; brothers, Clinton A. Churchill and Christopher J. Churchill and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Father Clinton R. Churchill and sister, Amy B. Thompson.

Family will receive friends on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 4-6 p.m. at the Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road (at State Route 57) in Elyria.
