Brad R. Smith, 64, of Elyria passed away Tuesday January 23, 2018 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake following a brief illness. He was born April 21, 1953 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident. Brad was a 1971 Elyria High School graduate, and a 1982 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College. He was a self employed Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years, served in the United States Air Force, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and an active member of many local fraternal organizations. Brad was a enthusiastic Ohio Sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing softball. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Joan "Indian" (nee-Lanney); daughter, Amber (Dugan) Bentley; son, Kevin Smith; grandchildren, Kesari and Kalija; sister, Sue (Big Dick) Taylor; his best buddy "Boy the Cat". He was preceded in death by his parents, Boog Smith and Doris DePue. The family will receive friends Friday 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday January 27, 2018 at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria.(Please meet at church) The Rev. Charles Diedrick, pastor will be the Celebrant.
