Beatrice L. "Betty" Kirsch (nee Smith) 79, of Grafton passed away on Saturday October 29, 2016 at Avon Oaks Caring Community after a long illness. She was born in Elyria on February 1, 1937. Betty graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 1954 and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. John College in 1958. She enjoyed a long and successful. Career in Nursing. She worked at Elyria Memorial Hospital , taught at Lorain Community College , was a visiting home health care nurse and retired as Supervisor of Nurses from the Lorain County Health Department. Betty was involved in the Elyria Jaycettes , LaLeche League , was a lector , sang in the choir and member of the Ladies Guild at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Grafton. She enjoyed cooking , baking , sewing , gardening , canning , cake decorating , reading and traveling. Her life's passion was her family and helping and caring for anyone in need. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Reginald Kirsch , and her children Kevin (Alison) of Grafton , Mary (Jim) Machovina of Elyria , Theresa Fiore of Grafton , Michele (Jim) Scarpelli of Avon , Cathy Zuk of Wakeman , Mark (Michelle) of Amherst and Peggy (Douglas) McKnight of Chardon , 23 grandchildren , 8 great-grandchildren , brothers Frank of Florida , James of Lorain and sister Patricia Galley of Wellington , and many loving nieces and nephews extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Theresa (Nasipak) Smith. Betty's family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Avon Oaks Caring Community especially the caregivers in Porter Pavilion , for their kindness and loving care extended to Betty over the past eight years and to Hospice of Western Reserve. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Wednesday November 2, 2016 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626 and Thursday November 3, 2016 from 10 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church 708 Erie St. Grafton, Ohio 44044. Rev. Fr. John Seabold pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery (Grafton).
