Basil A. Whitesel, 86, of Elyria passed away Tuesday January 19, 2021 at the U.H. Elyria Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born December 6, 1934 in Normantown, WV. And was a resident of Grafton for most of his life. Basil was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Grafton. He graduated from Normantown High School where he loved to play sports. After graduation, Basil moved to Grafton and met his wife, Faye (nee-Strickland) Whitesel. They were married on November 7, 1953. Basil and Faye enjoyed camping with family and friends and traveling to the family farm in West Virginia. He retired from the Ford Motor Plant in Lorain after working there for 32 years. Survivors include daughters, Roberta Whitesel of Grafton and Lisa (Jack) Lowther of Amherst; sons, Doug (Mary) Whitesel and John (Denise) Whitesel of New London; grandchildren, Greg, Thomas, Ian, Maggie, Amanda, Michaela and Nate; great-grandchildren, Emily, Evan, Mila and Kirk; sister, June Reaser of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Whitesel, parents, Leonard and Viola Whitesel, sisters, Mavie Alltop, Nelda Stout and Carolyn Reedy and brothers, Francis, Gale and Adren Whitesel. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic services will be private. Pastor Joe Dossa will Officiate. Burial will be at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
