IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara L.
Stevens
May 30, 1921 – June 9, 2019
Barbara L. Stevens went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, June 9, 2019. She was born in Henrietta Township on May 30, 1921 to Raymond G. and Dora (nee Latteman) Brown. She graduated from Henrietta High School and completed post secondary education at the Oberlin School of Commerce. Over the years, she used her secretarial and bookkeeping skills as a dedicated employee of several firms. On June 15, 1942, she married Merton A. Stevens at the Henrietta E & R Church. They were blessed with three children and thirty years of marriage, until he passed away on July 5, 1972. Barbara faithfully attended the LaPorte United Methodist Church. Dear to her heart was being a member of the Wednesday morning Bible study group and the Lydia Circle. She contributed countless hours and baked goods to church dinners and supported many activities of the church. Her family enjoyed her contributions to family gatherings. Pies, especially cherry pie, cookies, and waffles were favorites. Barbara was still actively participating in the Silver Sneakers program, where she was an inspiration to other participants who became special friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She corresponded regularly with nieces and cousins and especially enjoyed visits with Kathy Bruns and Lois Krebs. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant brother, George Leonard Brown. Those surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Raymond O. Stevens and Olin M. (Brenda) Stevens; a daughter Rose Ann (Richard D.) Hopkins; and a sister, Laura M. Krebs. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Richard S. (Rebecca) Hopkins, Robyn (Jason) Houze, Randi Hopkins, Rachael (Kevin) McNeal, Rebecca (John) Barnes, and Samuel Stevens. Besides her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, Robinetta Hopkins, Ethan and Owen Houze, and Esther and Winslow McNeal.
