Avis Claytena Cornell (nee McClure), 76, of Elyria was re-united with the love of her life on November 5, 2018. Avis passed away peacefully after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was born August 2, 1942 in Hamlin, WV. She was employed since 1991 at Midway Mall, Elyria in the food court taking only a few years off to care for her husband and then returning to the place she loved to be most. Avis put pride into all she did while working and be-friended everyone she met. When not at work, she loved spending time with friends and family , beautifying her yard, and making her famous fudge. Her mission after her diagnosis was to encourage all she could to be vigilant and get checked often for early detection of cancer. Survivors include her children Mark A, Cornell of Elyria, Alesha L. (Douglas) Weaver of Elyria; her brother Howard (Karen) McClure of Charleston, WV; grandchildren Justin Weaver, and Emily Weaver both of Elyria, Stephanie Cornell of Suffolk, VA., Michael Cornell of England, Kathryn Felts of New Kent, VA. ; great grandchildren Taylar and Abigail; niece Crystal (Jarrett) Forrest; great niece Sydney Forrest; great nephew Michael Forrest all of Charleston, WV; step-children Larry, Wayne, and Louise Cornell of Southpoint, OH. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years Paul A. Cornell; parents Clifton Ellison McClure and Dorothy M. McClure-Chandler; half-sister Doris Jean Pauley. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria 440-322-4626, where funeral services will be held 11 Am Friday. Pastor Gary Griffith will officiate. Burial Resthaven Memory Gardens (Avon).
