Archie E. "Art" Smith Jr. of Elyria passed away peacefully at the residence of his fiancé Deborah Turner on the morning of September 15, 2023, just one day after his eighty third birthday.  Art attended Warrensville Heights High School where he set many track records, and received multiple ribbons.  Art finished his schooling at Max Hayes becoming a diesel mechanic.  He had worked for Roadway, Jones Transfer and Cassens Transport where he retired in 1997. He married Johanna Halko on March 17, 1961. They were married for forty six years when Johanna passed away. Survivors include his fiancé' Deborah Turner, a daughter; Donna Smith, a son; Joseph Smith, step children; Janice Hudgens, Linda Mehos, Robin Dlugolinski, Gary Halio, a sister; Carol Popella. Art was preceded in death by his wife; Johanna Smith (nee: Halio), his parents; Archie E. Smith Sr. and Bessie (nee: Hendrickson), and a brother: Eddie Smith.  Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday October 14, 2023 at LaPorte United Methodist Church 2071 Grafton Rd. Elyria, Ohio 44035 where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.  Pastor William Baker will officiate. Please wear BLUE as it was Art's favorite color. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Art's memory may be sent to Friendship APL 8303 Murray Ridge Rd.
