Anthony J. "Tony" Kufta, 82, of Elyria passed away Sunday October 26, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1932 in Uniontown, PA. and was a Elyria resident for most of his life. Tony worked in assembly at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for many years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Elyria, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers Football fan. Survivors include his beloved companion, Joannie McBrairty and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella (nee-Dudek) in 2002, sisters, Emma (Andrew) Sabatula, Sally (John) Skovira, Stella (Frank) Bendick, Rose (Joseph) Zitney, Mary (Bob) Howard, and Viola Kobzowicz Stuehr, brothers, Frank (Madeline) Kufta and John (Betty) Kufta. The family will receive friends on Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be on Friday October 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agnes Church 611 Lake Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Albert Veigas, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, where members of the V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
