Anne M. Szlempa, (nee-Sabol), 86, of Elyria passed away Tuesday at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a brief illness. She was born July 15, 1925 in Bucknell, IA. And was a Elyria resident for most of her life. Anne worked as a bookeeper at the Hovey-Kaiser Insurance Agency in Elyria for 30 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the former Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elyria, the Elyria United Polish Club Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading and traveling. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Walter; daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Sheller of Stillwater, OK.; sons, Gregory (Alicia) Slempa of Mount Pleasant, SC., and John "Jack" (Molly) Szlempa of Elyria; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Carabotta and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
