Anne Rita Stefek (nee: Salek) 98, of Elyria passed away peacefully Thursday January 19, 2012 at Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville. She was born to Sofia and Thomas Salek on March 16, 1913 in Forbes Road, PA. Anne moved with her parents from Blainesburg, PA. in 1923 and has lived in Elyria since. She attended St. Mary's School and the former Elyria Business College. She was employed by The Ridge Tool Co. for thirty eight years as an executive secretary. She was a member of St. Jude's and St. Agnes Church, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Stefek enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles, and playing cards with her friends. She was an excellent cook and baker; and was featured in the Chronicle Telegram in an article for her soups and bread. She was preceded in death by her husband; Steve G. Stefek, a brother; Frank Salek, her father; Thomas Salek, her mother; Sofia Salek Mikich and step father; Kosta Mikich, and two sons in law; Dr. James Kolopus of Oak Ridge, TN and Michael L. Kozel of Elyria. Mrs. Stefek is survived by two daughters; Marilyn Kozel Lisicky (husband Robert) of Elyria and Joanne C. Kolopus Asher of Oak Ridge, TN. She deeply loved and enjoyed her twelve grandchildren; James (Stacey) Kolopus, Karen Kolopus of Oak Ridge, TN., Cathy (Mark) Carrier of Columbus, OH., Michael (Darlene) Kozel, Mary (Rick) Miller, Stephen (Jessica) Kozel, Celine (Scott) Webber, Elizabeth (Brian) Simpkins of Elyria, OH, Theresa (John) Gambrell of Cleveland, OH. Monica (James) Glover of Bay Village, OH, Christine Kozel of Virginia Beach, VA, Petty Officer 1St Class Matthew Kozel (Marguerita Vicens) of Chesapeake, VA, and eleven great grandchildren; Brittany, Brian and Benjamin Simpkins, Stephen and Zachary Kozel, Seth and Colin Webber, Alexis Glover, Brandon and Makayla Carrier, and Kelley Kolopus. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews and many who knew her as "Grannie Annie". Friends may call 2-5 PM Sunday January 22, 2012 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) where closing prayers will be at 9:30 AM Monday. Funeral Mass 10:00 AM Monday January 23, 2012 at St. Agnes Church 611 Lake Ave. Elyria, OH 44035. Rev. Fr. Charles Ryba will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Stefek's memory can be sent to St. Agnes Church.
