Alvin C. "Al" Howdyshell, 95, of Elyria passed away Sunday April 21, 2019 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor following a sudden illness. He was born June 9, 1923 in Monday Creek Township, OH. and was an Elyria resident for the past 24 years, coming from Amherst, where he made his home for many years. Al was employed by the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 28 years, retiring in 1985 as a traffic manager. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he was a volunteer with many organizations, proudly served his country in the United States Army during W.W. II, was a member of both the Lorain and Elyria Senior Men's fellowship clubs and was a former very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Survivors include his daughter, Roberta "Bobbi" (Dan) English; sons, Dennis (Sharon) Howdyshell and Ron (Carol) Howdyshell; grandchildren, Brett, Leah, Marci and Kristin; great-granddaughter, Lucia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen in 1991, second wife, Helen in 2014, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. The family will receive friends Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 26, 2019 at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St., Elyria. (please meet at church). The Rev. Fr. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Amherst. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank in care of St. Jude's Church.
