Allen Michael Mihalik 84, of Elyria passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday September 27, 2023 following a long illness. He was born October 3, 1938, in Belle Valley, Ohio. Al was a Lorain High School 1956 Class B graduate and then served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 at Ft. Ord in California. He worked as a chemical operator for B.F. Goodrich in Avon Lake and was an active member at St. Jude Parish in Elyria where he was President of the PTU and coached CYO football. He was supporter of Elyria Catholic and was past President of The Panther Club.
Al was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and playing softball through the years. He was a life member of Amvets Post #55 and American Legion Post #211. His greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and activities. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years; Luceda M. (nee: Bring), two daughters; Dr. Karen Mihalik-Potoczak (Dr. Douglas Potoczak) of Avon Lake, Sharon L. Kauffman of Acworth, GA, a son: John B. Mihalik (Michelle) of Sheffield Lake. Additional survivors include his grandchildren; Eric Mihalik (Brooke), Brian Mihalik (fiancé' Madeline Bernard), Samantha Potoczak Lindsay (Scott), Kristina Kauffman, Kate Mihalik (fiancé Luke Raley), Katlyn Kauffman, and a great granddaughter; Alexandra Lindsay. Al was preceded in death by a grandson; Alexander Potoczak, his parents; John and Suzanne (nee: Endrek) Mihalik, five sisters; Helen Lockhart, Margaret Mihalik, Mary Wilhelm, Elizabeth Merrill, Martha A. Ciesla, and six brothers; John Maholic, Steven Mihalik, Joseph Mihalik, Thomas Mihalik, Andrew Mihalik, William Mihalik.
The family will receive friends from 1-5 PM on Sunday October 1, 2023, at The Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Elyria (440)322-4626. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday October 2, 2023, at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria, OH 44035 where The Reverend Father Richard A. Gonser will be the Celebrant. (Please meet at Church). Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where V.F.W. Post #1079 will provide full military honors.
