Alice I. Vanek, (nee-Smith), 97, of Elyria passed away Sunday August 2, 2020 at the Elyria Wesleyan Village following a brief illness. She was born December 30, 1922 in North Ridgeville and was a lifelong area resident. Alice was a lifelong member of the Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville, served as a volunteer at the former EMH Regional Medical Center for 23 years, and was a member of both the Elyria Senior Women's Fellowship and the Merry Wive's of 40. Survivors include her daughter, Jean (Dennis) Newton; sons, Roger (Sharron) Vanek and Richard (Claudia) Vanek; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Keith Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger in 1976, sister, Lorna (Harold) Sweet, and brothers, Vernon "Pat" Smith and Allen Smith. The family will receive friends Friday August 7, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required. Graveside Services will follow at 11:45 a.m. at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. (PLEASE MEET AT THE CEMETERY). The Rev. Tom Joyce, Pastor of Fields United Methodist Church will Officiate.
