Alfred F. "Al" Machovina, 93, of Grafton passed away Friday August 6, 2021 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a brief illness, prior to Keystone Pointe, he resided at Elmcroft in Lorain. He was born September 7, 1927 in North Ridgeville and was a Grafton resident for most of his life. Al was a Mathematics Teacher at Midview High School for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He proudly served in the United State Army during W.W. II, was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 1079, the Elyria Bowling Hall of Fame and the Midview Sports Hall of Fame. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Oliver (Rick Gillett) and Kimberly (Peter) Renuart; sons, Mark (Karen) Machovina and Kenneth (Jean) Machovina; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernie (Gloria) Machovina. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in 2015, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. The family will receive friends Thursday August 12, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Gathering Area of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 708 Erie St., Grafton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Church. The Rev. Fr. John P. Seabold, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Grafton, where members of V.F.W. Post 1079 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
