We pray he is in his heavenly home with many dwellings he can move around in. Al worked as a heavy equipment operator with Local Union 18 Operating Engineers where he was honored as a 40 years member. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion after serving in the Navy during the Korean War. He is a past master of Unity Masonic Lodge #12 in Ravenna, Ohio. Albert, affectionately known as Grumpy to his grandchildren, will be remembered for his love and pride of family, along with his sense of humor and orneriness which continued until his last breath. He wore flannel shirts year-round and loved fishing and camping. He had many sayings that will continue out of the mouths of those who knew him. He leaves a huge void in the lives of those he touched. A funeral Mass for Albert was held on Thursday, January 21 at 11:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton, Ohio with internment following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brookpark, Ohio. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Mass is being live streamed on the church's website. https://olqpgrafton.org/ The recorded link is on the website titled Funeral of Al Bessey for a short time under previous Masses. The family would like to thank the staff at AbbeWood and Crossroads Hospice who helped care for Albert for the past 10 months. They were wonderful, caring people.
