Obituary for Walter Byron Kokoski

Walter Byron Kokoski 68, of Elyria went home to the Lord on Tuesday August 6, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. He was surrounded by family and friends as he made his final journey after a short illness. Byron was born in Johnstown, PA on May 24, 1951, but moved to Elyria a few years later. He was a lifelong resident of Elyria and LaGrange where he spent most of his life working in the family masonry business. He also spent time teaching masonry trades at LCCC, LCJVS, and EHOVE. He was also a long time member of Elyria United Polish Club. Byron spent his free time traveling with his wife, relaxing with his friends and family, enjoying music and bringing ice cream to his grandchildren. His family was the centerpoint of his life, and he enjoyed getting together with his large extended family and friends for any occasion. Byron is survived by the love of his life and wife of thirty seven years; Connie (nee: Hubbard), his children; Kim (Dave) Morgan, Rob (Jenna) French, Tammy (Denny) Bowles, Aimee (Stephen) Dean, and Matthew Kokoski. He is dearly loved and missed by his twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by his sisters; Karen Walker, Sheryl (Rick) Cooperider, and brothers; Carl (Jeannie), Alan, and Steven Kokoski, and a sister in law; Debby Kokoski. Byron was preceded in death by his parents; Walter and Doris (nee: Lauer) and his brother Larry Kokoski. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Monday August 12, 2019 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where a Celebration of Byron’s life will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday August 13, 2019. Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor of St. Jude Church will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in Byron’s memory be sent to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 4550 Montgomery Ave. Suite 1100 N Bethesda, MD 20814.
