Obituary for Rosalie "Rosie" M. Pluta

Rosalie “Rosie” M. Pluta (nee Wilson),81, of S. Amherst (formerly of Elyria) passed away peacefully from a brief battle with cancer, Sunday, February 23, 2020, at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center with family by her side. She was born March 22, 1938 in Greensburg, PA., she was the daughter of the late Warren Dean and Martha (nee Michaelson) Wilson. Her family moved to Elyria in May 1941 when her father came to work for Bendix. Rosalie graduated from Elyria High School in 1956 and began working as a long-distance telephone operator at the Elyria Telephone Co. She then worked at Elyria Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator, business office receptionist and patient billing clerk. After retiring from EMH, she worked as a switchboard operator with SELCCU, office receptionist for Realty One, election clerk for Lorain Co. Board of Elections and gift wrapper at the Midway Mall. She was a member of St. Mary Parish in Elyria for 51 years where she was active with both the Hot Meals and Helping Hands Programs. She was involved in several organizations and volunteer programs including the UPC Ladies Auxiliary, current President of SCOA, Lorain Co. Children Services Voices for Children Advocate, past member of American Legion post # 12, Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Chairman, Elyria East Little League Coach, EHSPMB Concession Stand volunteer for 21 years, a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered for Elyria City Schools Care program. She was a member and President of Elyria Schools PTA for 27 years and she received the PTA State Life membership Award. In her spare time she enjoyed casino bus trips, camping and trips with her family. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren perform with the marching band, baton competitions and dance recitals. Rosalie leaves behind five children; daughters, Teresa Hartman of Elyria, Peggy (Rick) Smith of New London, and Roberta Galant of Elyria; sons Tony (Shelli) Pluta of Wellington and Raymond (Angie) Pluta of S. Amherst; 14 grandchildren Matthew, Marissa, Mark, and Meredith Hartman; Sam , Brandon, Baillie, Ian, Nathaniel and Mackenzie Smith; Timothy and Andrew Galant; Seth and Micayla Pluta; 3 great-grandchildren; sister Deanna Prunty, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren Dean and Martha Wilson; son Timothy James Pluta; great-granddaughter Kylie M. Galant; sisters Norma Haynes, Harriet Demyan, and Kathy Wilson. Family will receive friends 4-8 PM Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria, 440-322-4626.
