Ronald Duane Jantz Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 19th. He was 77-years-old. Ron was a lifelong resident of Grafton. Ron was a graduate of Midview High School's very first class in 1956. He was an All-County basketball player for Grafton High School and Midview. Ron served his country as a United States Marine from 1956 to 1959 and was awarded the Marines top boot camp honor of Meritorious Private First Class. Ron was a carpenter. He built many houses in Lorain County with his friend Bob Zaremba. Ron was also an entrepreneur. He started his own company, Ron's Custom Kitchens. His cabinet work was well known for its quality and personal touch. Ron was devoted to his faith and to coaching youth baseball. Ron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton. He was a past Chairman of the Church. He also served as trustee and treasurer and was an enthusiastic choir member - soloist. Everywhere you look in the church today, you will see something that Ron built, including most of the altar with his father Carl. Ron was a past President of Grafton Hot Stove. His involvement in Grafton Hot Stove started in 1970 as a coach and included volunteer work in every facet of the organization from field maintenance to concessions, coaching and administration. His Grafton Eagles baseball teams were very successful - winning five Lorain County Championships and appearing in four Ohio Hot Stove Final Fours and two State Championship games. He coached college players and former professionals in the Cuyahoga County Class AAA League and was the Varsity Manager of Midview High School's baseball teams in the late 1980's and early 90's. Ron coached baseball for nearly 25 years. The greatest love of his life though was his wife Barbara (Bruhn) and the family they created together. Ron and Barb were married in July of 1962. They first met at the Grafton Firemen's Festival and this past summer they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They had four children and are blessed with ten grandchildren. The four children are Tammi (Jantz) McLean of Chardon, Ron Jr. (wife Stacy) of Avon Lake, Michelle (Jantz) Krusinski (husband Dave) of Michigan and Creg (wife Anita) of Avon Lake. The Jantz grandchildren are Briana and Justin McLean, Riley, Julia, Caroline, Aidan, Maggie and Aneil Jantz and Carissa and David Krusinski. As a devoted grandfather, he was a constant on the sidelines or in the audience of his grandchildren's events. Ron is survived by his wife Barbara, sister Dolores (Jantz) Trenchard of Grafton and brother Carl of Elk Rapids, Michigan. He was proceeded in death by his parents Carl and Viola and his brothers Raymond and Arthur.
