Obituary for Richard Ralph Holtwick

Richard Ralph Holtwick 83 of Elyria passed away Wednesday March 4, 2015 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following a 5 month battle with Cancer. He was born April 3, 1931 in Elyria and a graduate of North Ridgeville High School. He was a member of VFW post #3341 , Amvets post # 32 , American Legion Post #12, Senior mens club of Elyria, Moose Lodge # 778 Elyria , Elyria Polish Club and Holy Name Society at St. Vincent DePaul. Richard was a Staff Sergeant in the United States AirForce 1950-1954 during the Korean War , stationed in France. He enjoyed all sports especially Baseball, he played on many local teams, he also enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also loved traveling to casinos with family and friends. Survivors include daughters Linda (Gary) Wheeler , Denise Gard , Darlene (Donald) Lear all of Elyria , son Mike (Nancy) Serozi of Cary, North Carolina, 9 grandchildren , 12 great-grandchildren, sisters Mary Zacharias of N. Ridgeville , Carol (Don ) Loescher of Elyria , Nancy (Carl) Hartman of Lorain , Martha (Tony) Lima of Elyria , brother James of Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wives Jeanette (nee Machovina) in 1968 and Agnes (nee Serozi) in 1998, parents Joseph Sr. and Frances (nee Redinger), baby boy at birth in 1963 , daughter Cathy Flatt, sister Frances Gilgenbach , brothers Joseph Jr. , Thomas and Robert , son-in-laws David Gard and Louie Flatt . Family will receive friends 3-6PM Sunday March 8, 2015 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57) Elyria 440-322-4626. Prayers will be held 9:20 Am Monday March 9, 2015 in the funeral home , followed by 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent DePaul Church 41295 N. Ridge Rd. (Elyria Twp.). Rev. Fr. Mike Zacharias will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery(Elyria). In lieu of flowers family suggests donations to St. Vincent DePaul Church or Donors Choice.Online condolences may be expressed at www.laubenthalmercado.com
