Obituary for Richard J. "Jim" Carle

Richard J. "Jim" Carle, 78, of Elyria passed away Sunday August 2, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was born May 16, 1937 in Mason City, IA., and was a Elyria resident for most of his life. Jim worked for the United States Government in the Navy Finance Department in Cleveland for 10 years until retiring in 2000. Prior to that he worked at Spitzer Motors in Elyria for many years. He was United States Navy veteran, a member of St. Agnes Church in Elyria, the Knights of Columbus Council 774, and the Elyria Elks Lodge #465. An avid golfer, he was also a member of the Oberlin Golf Club. Survivors include his daughter, Jeanine (Greg) Gamble of Zanesville; son, Rich Carle of Medina; grandchildren, Rachel, Evan and Rory. He was preceded in death by his wife DeLaurice "Dee" in 2012, 1 sister and 1 brother. The family will receive friends Friday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday August 8, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Church 611 Lake Ave. Elyria. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). The Rev. Fr. Albert Veigas, pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund 118 Kipling St. Elyria. Online condolences may be expressed at
