Obituary for Paul Lee Setliff

Paul Lee Setliff, 87, of LaGrange passed peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, June 2, with his adoring family at his side.

Paul was born November 11, 1933, in Killarney, West Virginia. Upon retirement from a 28-year career with General Motors, his main hobbies including tinkering, ideally outdoors, and serving as the self-appointed foreman for everyone else’s projects. Most weekends he could be found at local bluegrass shows, where he tore up the dance floor with his unforgettable moves. And although Paul consumed approximately three gallons of coffee per day, it somehow didn’t prevent him from being a world-class napper. There was no one on this planet he couldn’t make laugh, whether he was trying to or not.

Paul is survived by daughters Darlene and Pam; sons Paul, Brad (Susan) and Darrell; grandchildren Tony, Jason, Kimberly, Bradlee, Rajeana and Jesse; and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind six treasured sisters, four amazing brothers, and countless nieces, nephews and friends –each of whom considered Paul to be a hero.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jan; his son, Nelson; his grandson, Michael; his brothers, Noel, Eddie, Norman, Jerry, and Michael; his sister, Brenda; and by the parents he idolized, Walter and Susan.

There is no way to properly summarize the life of a legend. He was a vibrant, effortlessly cool guy, and his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone he knew.

The family will receive visitors from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) in Elyria (440)322-4626. A celebration of his life will be held immediately after visitation, and a burial will be held privately. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, to please honor Paul by spending time outside, getting into something.

Online condolences can be expressed at www.laubenthalmercado.com.
